C’est Prune: July 2017

C'est Prune: Madison Iseman

C'est Prune   |   Written by Dylan Jader

Prune: You’ve found great success in the industry, but it’s been a long journey. Talk to me about some of your early roles, such as Modern Family, and how they helped shape your acting career.

Madison: It has been a crazy four and a half years since I’ve moved to LA, that’s for sure. It’s been such an amazing ride, and I am so grateful and blessed for every opportunity that has come my way. My Modern Family guest star was actually the first television role I ever booked. I remember calling my mom crying when I got the call that I booked it. I’ve learned so much from getting to experience different sets. I was lucky enough to do a few episodes of Henry Danger, and appear on Kirby Buckets, The Real O’Neals, and a few others. The coolest part about guest starring on other shows is that you can watch and learn, and get to know the people that have been doing this forever. It’s also a great way to get more comfortable in front of the camera. Practice makes perfect.

Prune: We currently see you in Still the King on CMT. Talk to me about the show, and your character, Charlotte.

Madison: Yes. Still the King is a quirky comedy on CMT. Our characters have a lot of fun while trying to tackle what life throws our way. I play Charlotte, who is everything I want to be. She’s fun, witty, confident, and has the coolest wardrobe. Season two she becomes a little rebellious, so I’m excited for the audience to experience that this summer.

Prune: Season 2 returned to TV last week. What can we expect in the new season?

Madison: A lot of craziness. Charlotte’s mom, Debbie, has a new baby on the way and no one is really sure who the father is. Charlotte has a new boy crush, and her and Mabel get into some trouble. There is a lot of Kevin Farley this season, which I am probably most excited about. I think the world needs more Kevin Farley.

Prune: What is it like to work alongside Billy Ray Cyrus?

Madison: Billy Ray is the nicest, most down to earth person I know. He makes work every day so easy. I’ve always been a huge Billy Ray Cyrus fan since I was a little girl, and I still am. I’ve learned so much from getting to work with him throughout the past two years.

Prune: You’ll also be on the big screen soon with the remake of Jumanji. How does the movie differ from the original?

Madison: The new Jumanji actually isn’t a remake, it’s a sequel. So basically, the movie takes place many years later. The original board game transforms into a video game and is stored away in the basement of a high school. Three kids and I find it during detention and decide to play. We choose our avatars, get sucked into the game, and then turn into our avatars. I turn into my avatar, Jack Black. It’s probably the coolest thing that has ever happened in my life to this day.

Prune: What was it like to be part of a movie that is so well loved and well known?

Madison: I watched Jumanji growing up as a kid, so being able to be a part of the sequel is absolutely amazing. It still hasn’t sunk in yet how cool it actually is.

Prune: Aside from acting, you also sing and model. Talk to me about those aspects of your career.

Madison: Modeling and singing pretty much come with the job. I don’t really have the drive to become a singer at the moment, but I always have to sing for auditions. I’m working on some music right now for other projects, but they’re all just side projects right now. So, we’ll see what happens.

Prune: Who inspires you in the industry?

Madison: Reese Witherspoon has always been my idol. Election was one of my favorite movies as a little girl, and Big Little Lies is my favorite show. Obviously, nothing has changed over the years, I love Reese.

Prune: You’re currently dating Spencer Sutherland, who is also a rising musical star. What is it like to grow with someone who understands the business?

Madison: Spencer is amazing and is so talented! His humbleness and determination inspire me every day. It’s really nice to have a best friend by your side that understands the rejection and difficulty of the business. He’s my rock.

Prune: Fans can often catch a glimpse of your cat, Owen, on Instagram. Are you a big animal person?

Madison: I sometimes prefer animals more than humans. I’ve always been a big animal person, I grew up riding horses. Growing up we had dogs, cats, and a bearded dragon. Owen is the love of my life. I’d have more animals, but I travel way too much. I’m able to bring Owen pretty much everywhere with me.

Prune: As your success grows, so does your fan base. How has the spotlight changed your life?

Madison: You know, I haven’t really noticed too much of a difference. It’s also something I try not to really think about. Those who have come up to me, I’ve always tried to make an effort to sit down and have an actual conversation with them. I love meeting new people, and that part of it is so awesome.

Prune: Time for fashion. What is your everyday look?

Madison: I’m not much of a fashionista – I basically live in a plain t shirt with a pair of jeans.

Prune: What are your three favorite fashion trends at the moment?

Madison: High waisted pants, sheer tops, and Adidas. Are those considered trends anymore? I’m always so behind.

Prune: Let’s finish with fashion pruning. If you could eliminate one current trend, what would it be

Madison: Fish nets. I’ve never really been a fan. I say that and someone is going to catch me trying fish nets out next week. Oops.

Quoting Madison

"I’ve always just loved the horror genre and scary movies. I don’t really know why. Ever since I was a little girl, they were always my favorite movies to watch. They are also one of my favorite movies to act in. There are just really no rules."
